Right before Thanksgiving, a Boston man, John Miles, was taking a long 4-mile stroll with his Husky-Beagle mix, Lucy, when he was suddenly struck by a vehicle. The car hit the pair at high speed, leaving Miles incapacitated with both his legs and one arm broken.
Although Lucy was also injured, the brave pup limped to a nearby dentist's office and barked at the front door until someone responded. She then went back to Miles' side and laid beside her unconscious owner until help came.
Because Miles had no identification on him, the police had to use the tags on Lucy's collar to track down Miles' home and family. Both Lucy and John have undergone surgery and are now on their way to recovery. The amazing MSPCA has set up a fund to help offset the cost of Lucy's surgery, and have raised $2,000 so far.
We're so thankful for the loyal and brave companions in our lives like Lucy! Do you know a heroic dog in your community? Share with us in the comments below!
